The Mystery Band
I didn’t get too many guesses on the mystery band. While they weren’t one of the biggest metal bands, they were one of my favorites. I saw them in concert three separate times. The last time I saw them was in a small club in K.C. where I got to meet them. They were really cool guys and talked to us for a while, and signed autographs.

The band is….(drum roll please)……Dokken. Don Dokken is the lead singer who has killer vocals, and they had one of the best guitarist (in my opinion), George Lynch. I don’t listen to this genre too much anymore, however, I do have a few tunes that pop up on my ipod shuffle from time to time.

I wondered what Dokken was up to these days, so I checked on itunes and saw they released an album last year entitled “Lightning Strikes Again". I listened to the sound clips and it is very reminiscent of the old Dokken. Which I think is cool. I may even download a couple of tunes, after all, I just can’t resist a good metal ballad!
In My Dreams
“In my dreams it’s still the same"…….. Those are lyrics to a heavy metal tune. Do you know the band?
Well, in my dreams, I wanted to play in a heavy metal chick band. This is my rocker chick look. I wore this outfit to see the band in question. I would say I loved this band, but…."it’s not love” (another song from this band). Know who it is yet?

Come on….. I know there are some former headbangers out there who are “heaven sent” that read my blog. Take a guess. You might “just get lucky". Figured it out yet?
Okay, before you “walk away” and leave me “alone again". I will give you one more clue that may “break the chains” of your memory. The name of the band was the lead singer’s last name……..and it’s not Slaughter.
Any guesses? I’ll tell you tomorrow, if you don’t already know.
Remember Winger?
One of the big heart throbs of the heavy metal era, was Kip Winger the lead singer of Winger. I know many of my friends who thought he was the hottest long haired rocker there was. With his three day old beard, big bright smile and come hither eyes, he melted the hearts of many girls.
And while I would have to agree that he was very nice looking, Winger was not in my top ten favorite metal bands, musically. But then, in my shallowness, the appeal of heavy metal wasn’t always about that great lyric and melodic hook….right. Which is quite evident in Jackyl’s “Lumberjack", where a chainsaw made it’s debut as a musical instrument. A song I requested be played at my wedding reception and I actually danced to it.
So do you ever wonder what these “hot” heart throbs look like now? This is for my blog friend Heidi R..
Kip Winger then…….

……..Kip Winger now.

I think when the scruff turns gray it’s time to shave.
Who was your big heart throb and what do they look like now?
Metal Mania 2
Yesterday I showed an old picture of me all dressed up ready to go to a concert, and asked what metal band you thought I was going to see. I had one guess that it was Cinderella. Which was a great guess, but not correct. I went through several videos before I found one to post.
For those of you who didn’t recognize them, that was Motley Crue. I picked that video because it showed the backup singer/dancers and in my shallow ambitious dreams, I wanted to be the Motley Crue back-up singer/dancer girl. I spent many hours in fromt of the mirror getting the moves down! It didn’t matter that I can’t sing, or that I wasn’t blond and six foot tall, and that I’m deathly afraid of being on a stage with thousands of people watching. That was still my dream!
One of the really cool things about that concert was that the drummer (Tommy Lee) and his drum set was in a steel frame that would rise up from the stage, move towards the audience and invert as he was playing. It was cool and a really good show.
The band split a couple of years later, and I saw Vince Neil (the lead singer) at the Missouri State Fair along with my second favorite metal band. I’ll blog about them next time.
Metal Music Mania: 1
I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere Missouri. Rural areas don’t have cable TV, so we had an antenna on our roof that would allow us to get a whopping two channels, ABC and PBS.
It’s 1986. I’m dating a guy who lives in the largest town in our area, and he had cable TV. So I’m flipping through the channels one night and land on MTV. I watch it a while, then this video comes on.
That was it. The video that started my love of heavy metal music. I loved the band, their music, hair, pretty much everything! They were the first of many heavy metal concerts I attended. I saw them five times. Every show was great, unfortunately I had terrible seats. Jon Bon Jovi became the model for what my future husband would be, but God had other plans. It just took me several years to figure that out!
